Fractions
We are reviewing Equivalent fractions, LCM's and LCF's, simplifying fractions, and adding fractions(improper and mixed numbers) with like denominators.
We will be learning how to add and sutract fractions with unlike denominators and multiply and divide fractions before the end of January.

Multiplying and Dividing Decimals:
We have learned a new mutiplication method that we are working on mastering. We are also working on adding/subtracting/ and multiplying decimals. Please ask your child how to "scoop" :-)
Mrs. Barr's Math
We are diving back into place value and adding on the millions period and the thousandths place. We are now reading, writing, and using the numbers in standard, written, and expanded form. Please be sure your child is practicing these things at home.
For Example: ~123,456,789.321 is standard form
~ 100,000,000 + 20,000,000 + 3,000,000 + 400,000 + 50,000 + 6,000 + 700 + 80 + 9 + 0.3 + 0.02 +
0.001 isexpanded form

In addition, we are rounding and estimating with numbers. We have learned a new method called UZAPL. Your child should be able to teach this method to you. We have learned a dance and a "rap" in order to help us remeber the rounding process :-)
Also be practicing adding and subtracting larger numbers along with multiplying and long dividing since these are the operations students typically have the most problems with. We will be working on these skills in FLEX as well.
